Waning Moon Ritual: Nourishing Root Stew Vegan and Gluten Free Recipe

img_7750

This warm + hearty stew is the perfect waning moon ritual. The act of self care at this time is supported by the inward energy at waning moon.

Make this when you feel tired or run down.

This lower chakra energy boost will warm you up. The grounding energy in roots is so healing. Root veggies have the ability to absorb vitamins and minerals from the ground, so root vegetables grown in rich soil {make sure they are organic} are full of essential nutrients. Many are antioxidants. They all have nourishing + strengthening healing properties.

This stew is a favorite even with my picky kids. It’s very easy to make + is naturally vegan + gluten free. You can add meat if you desire.

ingredients:

8-10 cups of water or broth

4-6 cups of a combination of peeled + chopped roots such as:

  • parsnips
  • rutabaga
  • beets
  • yams
  • sweet potatoes
  • turnips
  • carrots
  • celeriac {celery root}

1 peeled + chopped apple

1 onion chopped

2 minced cloves of garlic

1 tsp. minced ginger root {more if you like ginger like I do}

1 tsp. turmeric

1 tbsp nutritional yeast {add more if you like it, leave it out completely if you don’t}

1/2 tsp. italian seasoning

salt + pepper to taste

instructions:

brown onion in a little bit of oil {or steam fry} in a big pot

add garlic + ginger + then add water + roots. Cook until soft. I like to cook it until the roots fall apart + start thickening the broth. You may need to add more broth/water as you go.

As you’re cooking, say a blessing: put love + high vibes into the food. Be conscious about this meal prep, you are cooking for the high priestess! {YOU} She requires greatness.

optional add ins + flavor combos:

  • Sometimes I add a bit of curry seasoning.
  • I have added a 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice + 2 tbsp of maple syrup + added toast pumpkin seeds on top afterward.
  • I do like to add some cinnamon + puree it
  • I love nutritional yeast so I like to put some on top at the end.

ritual:

Light candles, put on soft music.

Decorate your table with seasonal flowers or plants. Use cloth napkins.

Make this meal feel festive.

This is a special occasion, so get dressed up if you like.

Set your table with your favorite bowls + cups.

Drink room temperature water or have some green tea.

Before you eat, say a blessing.

Give thanks.

Feel gracious for this meal.

Give thanks for the earth for nourishing the roots as they grew.

Have gratitude for the effort it took to harvest it.

Bless the energy it took to prepare the stew with love.

Then allow yourself to be open to receiving this nourishment.

As you eat, feel your body absorbing the nutrients from the stew. Feel yourself growing stronger with each bite.

Wash your dishes in gratitude for this beautiful meal + use the rest of the day to be mindful of your energy levels. Rest if need be. Go to bed early.
